可以安装在雕刻打磨机、电磨机、雕刻机和气动雕刻笔上使用。主要应用于陶瓷、玻璃、石材、玉石翡翠玛瑙等材料的雕刻、钻孔、打磨等，金刚石磨针使用的时候要加水（否则金刚砂高温会石墨化，加快了报废进度），可以提高锋利度和磨针的寿命。
钻孔时要注意：玉雕钻孔跟玉雕切割一样，都需要用水冷却，尤其钻头是人造金刚石的，要有足够的水冷却钻头否则人造金刚石遇热后碳化将损坏钻头。钻孔时钻头要慢进峰出，向下施压时用力要均匀，否则容易造成钻头折断或使玉器裂损，尤其是脆性的玉石或薄片状玉件。钻孔或套芯时加工的玉件要固定牢一旦玉件松动，钻孔可能跑偏甚至会崩掉损坏
