主要用于脂肪、油脂、石蜡等的碘值测定。
操作时要洗净、烘干，称取试样，置于碘价烧瓶中，把溶剂及碘液(溴化钾溶液)仔细的加入瓶内，盖紧瓶塞摇匀，然后在宽口及玻璃塞处，滴入数滴碘化钾溶液。在20~30度的温度情况下放置30分钟(放在暗处)，要不断地摇动，使试样的被测物质(不饱和物)与碘充分加成。试验结束时，打开活塞，使瓶口部分的碘化钾溶液流入瓶内摇匀(均无损失)，再用新配制的10%碘化钾溶液10mL和蒸馏水50mL，把瓶塞和瓶颈上的液体冲入瓶内摇匀。用0.1mol/L硫代硫酸钠溶液迅速滴定并充分摇动，使混合液由深色变为黄色，加入1mL 1%的淀粉指示剂，继续滴定将至终点时，用力振荡，直到溶液至蓝色消失为止。同时作一个空白试验，以消耗硫代硫酸钠的毫升数，减去空白试样所消耗的毫升数，再算出试样消耗碘的克数，这个克数就是试品的碘价值。
