三棱形状的地钉，主要特点是接触面积大，因此适用于比较松软的地面，如泥地，雪地，一定程度可以代替高山帐的雪钉。另外，遇有坚硬地面时，弯钩的园地钉无法插入时，也只能用桩形地钉用铁锤或石块打入。
三棱地钉打入地面后固定性好于园形的传统地钉，另外，因为它是直形的，所以经常在户外做为打桩形成一个固定点使用。建议帐篷四角选择打桩方式固定，而门幅等经常要开启的地方用传统的园钩形地钉。
