硅砖是以二氧化硅为主要成分，其含量在93%以上的耐火制品，它以石英岩为原料，加入少量矿化剂，在高温下烧成。其矿物组成为鳞石英、方石英、少量残存石英和高温形成的玻璃质等共存的复相组织。
硅砖属于酸性耐火材料，对酸性炉渣侵蚀抵抗力强，但受碱性渣强烈侵蚀，易被含Al₂O₃、K₂O、Na₂O等氧化物作用而破坏，对CaO、FeO，Fe₂O₃等氧化物有良好的抵抗性。
主要用于炼焦炉的碳化室和燃烧室的隔墙、炼钢平炉的蓄热室和沉渣室，均热炉、玻璃熔窑的耐火材料和陶瓷的烧成窑等窑炉的拱顶和其他承重部位。也用于热风炉的高温承重部位和酸性平炉炉顶。
