尼龙绳经高温水煮之后会产生对人体健康有毒害的物质，如二甲烷等毒素。毒素会渗入沸水及粽子里，人食了被毒素污染的粽子，轻则有恶心及胃不适，重者会出现头晕、呕吐、腹痛、腹泻等症状。 因此不要用尼龙绳包扎需要加温的食品。
绳子的保养，使用过程中的保养：几种对绳子有危害的行为：不能爆晒（怕热），酸性腐蚀（碱），放在汽车后备箱里拉来拉去等（以上行为除酸碱腐蚀外并非绝对）。绳子的清洁：可以用清水（中性或者专用洗涤液）洗涤后平摊在地上阴干；使用过程中避免硬物砸伤；虽然踩踏不会给绳子带来伤害也应避免。
