    从前，在一个农舍里面住着一对老夫妻,老爷爷和老奶奶。

。圣诞节到了，老奶奶用面捏了一个姜饼人

，给他用葡萄干儿作眼睛，用樱桃干儿做扣子。小人做好后，放到烤箱里面去烤。老爷爷和老奶奶都很饿，

想吃这个姜饼人。刚刚烤好，老奶奶就迫不及待地打开烤箱的门。
姜饼人一下子就从炉子里面跑出来，越窗而逃，一边跑还一边喊：不要吃我！

老爷爷和老奶奶就赶紧跟在后面追，一边追，还一边吆喝：站住！站住！
姜饼人看也不回头看一眼，他一边跑一边说：

跑快点，跑快点，你们追不上俺，因为我是姜饼人！

路上姜饼人碰见了一个小猪。站住！站住！我想吃掉你，小猪喊道。
。站住！站住！我想吃掉你，小猪喊道。姜饼人跑的更快了。他一边跑，一边说：

跑快点，跑快点，你们追不上俺，因为我是姜饼人！

再跑不多远，姜饼人看见了一头只灰猫,小人，站住！站住！我想吃掉你，灰猫喊道。他一边跑，一边说：

跑快点，跑快点，你们追不上俺，因为我是姜饼人！

猪和猫，还有老爷爷和老奶奶，都一起跑在姜饼人后面追，再跑不多远，姜饼人看见了一头母牛小人，站住！站住！我想吃掉你，母牛喊道。他一边跑，一边说：

跑快点，跑快点，你们追不上俺，因为我是姜饼人！

牛和猪，还有老奶奶，都一起跑在姜饼人后面追，但是姜饼人跑得很快，她们都追不上他。不久，姜饼人又遇到一匹大马。站住！站住！小人，我想吃掉你
，大马喊道。姜饼人也没有停，他一边跑，一边说：

跑快点，跑快点，你们追不上俺，因为我是姜饼人！

大马也加入了追赶姜饼人的队伍，姜饼人笑呀笑呀，一直笑到一条大河边。
哎呀，怎么办呢，他们要逮着我啦，我怎么着才能过河呢？这时，
从树丛出来一只狡猾的狐狸我可以帮助你过河，狐狸说，

跳到我的尾巴上面，就可以游到对岸。你不会吃掉我吗？姜饼人问。
当然不啦，狐狸说，我只是想帮助你。姜饼人就跳到狐狸的尾巴上面。
不久姜饼人就有点湿湿的了，快爬到我的背上，狐狸说。
姜饼人就爬到狐狸的背上。你太重了，我累了，快挪到我的鼻子上。
狐狸一边游泳，一边说。姜饼人就挪到狐狸的鼻子上。
不久他们就到了河对岸，狐狸马上就把姜饼人抛到空中，
张口大嘴，吧吱一声衔在嘴里。这就是姜饼人的结局。

于是，小姜饼男孩跳上了他的鼻子。

就在快上岸的那一霎那，狐狸仰起了头，啊呜一口！

“哎呀！”只听小姜饼男孩惊讶地说：“我不见了四分之一啊！

”下一分钟，他说：“怎么？我的一半儿不见了！

”再下一分钟，他喊道：“我的老天啊，我有四分之三不见啦！”

这之后呢，小姜饼男孩就再也没说过什么了。

The Gingerbread man

Once upon a time a little old woman

and a little old man lived in a cottage.
 Christmas was coming, the little old woman made a gingerbread man. She gave him currants for eyes and cherries for buttons. She put him in the oven to bake.

The little old woman and little old man were very hungry and wanted to eat the gingerbread man. As soon as he was cooked, the little old woman opened the oven door. The gingerbread man jumped out of the tin and ran out of the open window shouting, 'Don't eat me!'

The little old woman and little old man ran after the gingerbread man.
'Stop! Stop!' they yelled.The gingerbread man did not look back. He ran on saying,

""Run! run! as fast as you can! ""
You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man!"

Down the lane he sped when he came to a pig

. 'Stop! Stop! I would like to eat you," shouted the pig. The gingerbread man was too fast. He ran on saying

""Run! run! as fast as you can! 
You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man!"

The little Gingerbread Man ran on, and on, and on, until he passed by acat"Please stop, little Gingerbread Man," said the cat,"you look very good to eat." But the little Gingerbread Man laughed out loud.

  "Oho! Oho!" he said, "I have run away from a little old woman, a little old man, a pig, and I can run away from you, I can!" 

 And, as the cat chased him, he looked over his shoulder and cried, 

""Run! run! as fast as you can! 
You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man!"

 And the cat couldn't catch him. A little further on he met a cow

. 'Stop! Stop! little man,' called the hungry cow, 'I want to eat you.' Again the gingerbread man was too fast. He sped on down the road saying,

""Run! run! as fast as you can! 
You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man!"

The cow began to chase the gingerbread man along with the cat, pig, the little old woman and the little old man. But the gingerbread man was too fast for them.

 It was not long before the gingerbread man came to a horse

. 'Stop! Stop!' shouted the horse. 'I want to eat you, little man.' But the gingerbread man did not stop. He said,

""Run! run! as fast as you can! 
You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man!"

The horse joined in the chase. The gingerbread man laughed and laughed, until he came to a river. 'Oh no!' he cried, 'They will catch me. How can I cross the river?'

A sly fox came out from behind a tree

. 'I can help you cross the river,' said the fox. 'Jump on to my tail and I will swim across.'
'You won't eat me, will you?' said the gingerbread man.
'Of course not,' said the fox. 'I just want to help.'

The gingerbread man climbed on the fox's tail. Soon the gingerbread man began to get wet. 'Climb onto my back,' said the fox. So the gingerbread man did. As he swam the fox said, 'You are too heavy. I am tired. Jump onto my nose.' So the gingerbread man did as he was told.

No sooner had they reached the other side, than the fox tossed the gingerbread man up in the air. He opened his mouth and 'Snap!' that was the end of the gingerbread man.
